Ivan Vilotijević received a Diploma in chemistry from University of Belgrade in 2005. During his undergraduate studies he worked on various projects in the field of organic synthesis with Prof. Leo A. Paquette at The Ohio State University and Prof. David Y. Gin at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 2010 he earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology under tutelage of Prof. Timothy F. Jamison working on epoxide-opening cascade reactions aimed at synthesis of ladder polyether natural products. He then moved to Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces as a Marie Curie Fellow working on synthesis and biological studies of glycosylphosphatidylinositols and GPI-anchored proteins with Prof. Peter H. Seeberger. He joined Friedrich Schiller University as an assistant professor sponsored by the Carl Zeiss Foundation and started his research group in 2015. He is a member of the Institute of Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry where he, together with his team, develops novel catalytic methods for synthesis of complex organic molecules and pursues target oriented synthesis of bioactive molecules and biological probes. Ivan received tenure at FSU Jena in 2020 and he continues to serve as a university professor for Organic synthesis methods.
